"Now that we have a home, my boys can finally have a pet."
In the spring of 2017, Ms. Lopez and her two delightful boys moved into their new home, built by Habitat for Humanity Greater Salt Lake Area. As a single, full-time working mother also studying for her nursing degree, Ms. Lopez faced many challenges. She and her kids had lived in three different apartments while she was finishing her degree. Every time the rent increased, she and the kids would have to share one room in her mother’s apartment while searching for the next affordable apartment. Ms. Lopez was determined to get her degree and start her new career and stop this cycle of renting and moving.
Habitat gave Ms. Lopez that opportunity. Her new mortgage is $200 less than the rent of her last apartment! She is grateful that the payment it will stay constant, especially as rents continue to rise in the Salt Lake valley.
After settling into their new home, the boys were finally able to get a pet - something they had longed for.
