What We Repair

Our program focuses specifically on health, safety, and accessibility issues, including:

  • Roof leaks and weatherproofing
  • Windows (broken/missing), doors, and security hardware
  • Plumbing leaks and fixtures
  • Smoke and CO detector installation
  • Unsafe or damaged flooring
  • Accessibility upgrades (ramps, lifts, grab bars)
  • Electrical hazards and wiring issues
  • Water heater, furnace, and A/C repairs

How CHiRP Works

  1. Apply Online: The application takes approximately 10–15 minutes.
  2. Eligibility Review: We verify income, location, and homeowner status.
  3. Home Assessment: An expert identifies urgent safety and health issues.
  4. Repair Plan: Habitat handles the scope of work, permits, and professional contractors.
  5. Quality Check: We ensure the project meets our high standards before completion.

How to Qualify

  • ✔ Own a home on a permanent foundation
  • ✔ Live in Salt Lake, Tooele, or Davis County
  • ✔ Meet low-to-moderate income guidelines
  • ✔ Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident

What It Costs

We work to keep repairs affordable for every family:

  • Grant: Up to $20,000 toward eligible critical repairs.
  • Deferred Loan: If costs exceed the grant, we provide a 0% interest, deferred loan with no monthly payments. This is only due when the home changes ownership.
  • Full Transparency: We explain all financial options before any work begins.
