What We Repair
Our program focuses specifically on health, safety, and accessibility issues, including:
- Roof leaks and weatherproofing
- Windows (broken/missing), doors, and security hardware
- Plumbing leaks and fixtures
- Smoke and CO detector installation
- Unsafe or damaged flooring
- Accessibility upgrades (ramps, lifts, grab bars)
- Electrical hazards and wiring issues
- Water heater, furnace, and A/C repairs
How CHiRP Works
- Apply Online: The application takes approximately 10–15 minutes.
- Eligibility Review: We verify income, location, and homeowner status.
- Home Assessment: An expert identifies urgent safety and health issues.
- Repair Plan: Habitat handles the scope of work, permits, and professional contractors.
- Quality Check: We ensure the project meets our high standards before completion.
How to Qualify
- ✔ Own a home on a permanent foundation
- ✔ Live in Salt Lake, Tooele, or Davis County
- ✔ Meet low-to-moderate income guidelines
- ✔ Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident
What It Costs
We work to keep repairs affordable for every family:
- Grant: Up to $20,000 toward eligible critical repairs.
- Deferred Loan: If costs exceed the grant, we provide a 0% interest, deferred loan with no monthly payments. This is only due when the home changes ownership.
- Full Transparency: We explain all financial options before any work begins.
