The appointment of Carin Crowe to CEO in May 2024 created the opportunity for a fresh look at Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity's organizational structure. Carin collaborated with the board of directors and the key staff, taking a holistic approach focused on maximizing the strengths of each team member. This effort resulted in the creation of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer positions, which, along with the CEO, compose the new Executive Leadership Team.

Introducing David Cannon, CFO

joined Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity in 2016 as Controller, bringing 20 years of accounting experience with budgeting, reporting, cash flow tracking, reconciliation, compliance, and fiduciary responsibility. He is an active volunteer within the community and was the Treasurer of the Board for VOAD - Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster for seven years. David holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix, specializing in accounting.  His ability to think strategically and navigate complex federal funding contracts and multiple funding sources made him the clear choice for the role of CFO. 

 

Introducing Kate Nielsen, COO 

Kate Nielsen Headshot2Kate Nielsen started volunteering with Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity in 2012 and, within a few months, was hired as the Construction Field Operations Director, bringing over 20 years of experience in construction, office management, and office finance. As a licensed realtor, notary, and qualified lending officer, Kate oversees land purchase, subdivision/community development, new home construction, and housing rehabilitation. She developed our Critical Home Repair Program (CHiRP) and has since increased the program's capacity fivefold. Kate's commitment to the community extends beyond Habitat. She is an officer with Operation Neighbor, is a member of NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction) and the Utah Home Builders Association, and has volunteered with several non-profits over the past 30 years. Kate's experience, combined with her ability to take on challenging projects and see them through to completion, made her the ideal candidate for the role of COO.
